Honeywell Aerospace Announces $500 Million Tempe Expansion, Bringing 600 Jobs by 2028

Arizona’s aerospace industry is gaining another major investment as Honeywell Aerospace announces plans for a $500 million expansion of its existing campus in Tempe.

Announced on October 28, 2026, the project will add a 300,000-square-foot advanced manufacturing facility, with operations expected to begin in late 2028. The expansion is projected to support approximately 600 jobs as the facility ramps up, along with more than 1,000 local construction-related jobs.

Tempe Mayor Corey Woods described the project as the largest aerospace investment in the city’s history, highlighting its significance for the region’s growing aerospace, technology, and advanced manufacturing sectors.

Beyond the immediate economic impact, the investment reinforces Greater Phoenix’s position as a destination for high-tech manufacturing and raises an important question for the local real estate market: What could continued job growth mean for housing demand in Tempe and the surrounding East Valley?

A $500 Million Investment in Advanced Manufacturing

The expansion represents a significant addition to Honeywell Aerospace’s existing operations in Tempe.

Project highlights:

  • Total investment: $500 million
  • Facility size: Approximately 300,000 square feet
  • Location: Existing Tempe campus near Priest Drive and Warner Road
  • Employment: Approximately 600 jobs as operations expand
  • Construction impact: More than 1,000 local jobs supported
  • Expected opening: Late 2028

The new facility will incorporate advanced manufacturing technologies, including modular robotics, automated inspection systems, digital twins, and integrated digital production processes.

These technologies are designed to improve manufacturing efficiency, strengthen supply chain reliability, and support the production of sophisticated aerospace components.

The facility will serve both commercial aviation and defense markets, including the production of advanced aircraft control and cooling systems.

Why Honeywell Aerospace Is Expanding in Arizona

Arizona has attracted substantial investment across several high-growth industries in recent years. While semiconductor manufacturing has received much of the attention, aerospace and defense remain important contributors to the state’s economy.

Honeywell Aerospace has maintained a significant presence in Greater Phoenix for decades. Its decision to expand its existing Tempe operations reflects the region’s established aerospace workforce, manufacturing infrastructure, and access to specialized technical talent.

The announcement also follows a major corporate milestone. Honeywell Aerospace completed its separation from Honeywell on June 29, 2026, becoming an independently traded company on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol HONA.

The Tempe expansion represents a significant investment during this new chapter for the company.

For Greater Phoenix, investments of this scale contribute to a more diversified regional economy. The continued growth of semiconductor manufacturing, aerospace, defense technology, and other advanced industries helps broaden the area’s employment base and supports long-term economic activity.

What Could 600 Jobs Mean for Tempe’s Housing Market?

Major employment announcements are worth monitoring from a real estate perspective because sustained job creation can influence household formation, relocation patterns, and housing demand.

Honeywell Aerospace’s new facility will be located in southern Tempe, within convenient commuting distance of South Tempe, Chandler, Ahwatukee, and other East Valley communities.

As the facility approaches its anticipated 2028 opening, demand from engineers, manufacturing specialists, and other skilled professionals could create additional housing opportunities across these neighborhoods.

Here are three real estate trends I believe are worth watching.

1. South Tempe and Nearby Communities Could Benefit

For employees seeking shorter commutes, South Tempe, Chandler, and Ahwatukee offer established residential neighborhoods and a range of housing options.

These communities provide access to major employment centers throughout the East Valley, along with shopping, recreation, and other everyday amenities.

If the expansion attracts additional workers relocating to the Phoenix metro area, nearby communities could see incremental demand from both homebuyers and renters.

However, the impact will depend on where new employees choose to live, their household needs, and the availability of housing at different price points.

2. Long-Term Rental Demand Is Worth Monitoring

The addition of approximately 600 jobs could also create opportunities for the local rental market, particularly if some employees relocate from outside the region.

One important distinction is that Honeywell Aerospace has not specified how many positions will be filled by new local hires, employees transferring from other facilities, or workers relocating to Arizona.

As a result, 600 jobs should not be interpreted as 600 additional households entering the Tempe housing market.

The construction phase will also support more than 1,000 local jobs, generating economic activity during development. However, these temporary construction-related positions may have a more limited impact on long-term housing demand.

For real estate investors evaluating Tempe and the surrounding East Valley, employment expansion is one factor to consider alongside rental vacancy rates, housing supply, neighborhood fundamentals, and acquisition costs.

3. Will the Expansion Support Local Home Values?

Large corporate investments can strengthen a region’s economic foundation by supporting employment, attracting skilled workers, and encouraging additional business activity.

Over time, these factors may contribute to housing demand and help support neighborhood stability.

Honeywell Aerospace’s expansion is a positive long-term economic indicator for Tempe, but it does not guarantee rising home prices.

Local property values will continue to be influenced by mortgage rates, housing inventory, affordability, and broader market conditions.

For prospective buyers and investors, the more meaningful question is whether continued business investment translates into sustained employment and population growth over time.

Greater Phoenix’s Economy Continues to Diversify

The Honeywell Aerospace announcement is part of a broader economic development trend across the Phoenix metropolitan area.

North Phoenix has become a major center for semiconductor investment, while the East Valley continues to attract technology companies, manufacturers, and aerospace-related businesses.

Tempe’s established aerospace industry adds another important component to this growing economic landscape.

Together, these industries are helping Greater Phoenix develop a more diversified employment base rather than relying heavily on any single sector.

For individuals and families considering a move to Arizona, economic development is an important part of understanding a community’s long-term outlook.

Home prices, school districts, commuting distances, and lifestyle preferences remain essential considerations. However, the location of major employers and future employment opportunities can also influence where people choose to live.

Looking Ahead: Another Long-Term Investment in Tempe

Honeywell Aerospace’s $500 million expansion represents a significant milestone for Tempe and reinforces the city’s role in Arizona’s aerospace and advanced manufacturing industries.

With the new facility expected to open in late 2028, its long-term effects on employment, relocation patterns, and housing demand will be worth following.

For homebuyers, homeowners, and real estate investors, announcements like this provide useful context when evaluating the future of Tempe and surrounding East Valley communities.
